Pilot Training Admissions 2011-2012

Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, a Government of Kerala Undertaking, has invited applications from Indian Nationals for admission to the following Programmes offered by the Institute.

(a) Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) training (Ground Classes plus Flying Training).
(b) Private Pilot Licence (PPL) training (Ground Classes plus Flying Training).
(c) Ground Classes only.

Applicants should be at least 17 years of age as on 30th June, 2011. For admission to the three year Commercial Pilot Licence Training Programme, having an intake of 15 and carrying a fee of approximately 21.5 lakhs (200 hours), applicant should have passed the Plus Two or equivalent (Academic Stream) Examination with minimum 50% marks and should have secured 60 % in Mathematics, Physics and English together. The fee is to be paid in instalments as decided by the Institute. There will also be a security deposit of Rs.50,000/- to be refunded at the end of the flying training.

For admission to Private Pilot Licence training (Ground Classes Plus Flying Training) as well as to Ground Classes only, having an intake of 15, the minimum eligibility is a Pass in 10th Standard or equivalent with minimum 60% marks and English as a subject.

The fee for PPL (Ground Classes plus Flying Training) will be approximately Rs. 7.19 lakhs (60 hrs) to be paid in installments as decided by the Academy. There will also be a Security Deposit of Rs 50,000/- to be refunded at the end of flying training. The fee for Ground Classes only (PPL level) will be Rs. 50,000/- to be paid in one installment.

The fee specified here for CPL and PPL do not include DGCA (Director General of Civil Aviation) Examination/Licence Fees. Fluency in spoken English will be an added qualification for both CPL and PPL Courses.

Selection to the different Programmes will be based on a common written test & interview. The written test (objective type) of three hours duration, will comprise of questions from Physics, Mathematics, English, Geography, IQ and General Awareness (including aviation). Those securing a minimum of 50% marks in the written test will be called for interview. Those who are successful in written test and interview will be required to undergo a Pilot Aptitude Test. Successful candidates will be required to undergo a DGCA medical examination. A merit list will be prepared subsequent to the Medical Examination.

The training for selected students will be held at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport and other airports as required. Ground Classes will be conducted at Thiruvananthapuram. Flying training will comprise minimum 200 hrs for CPL and 60 hrs for PPL on Aircraft of the Academy and Ground classes. Training on Simulators will be provided when simulators are available, on payment of extra fees.

The trainees admitted for Ground Classes only, after completion of the course and passing the required DGCA exam, will be issued SPL (Student Pilot Licence) & FRTOL (Flight Radio Telephony Operator Licence-Restricted), with which they will be able to join other training institutes/ flying clubs in India for flying training. They will be given preference for admission for flying in Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology, Trivandrum, as and when vacancies arise.

All original documents along with attested copies will have to be produced at the time of interview. One parent/guardian of the candidate should be present at the time of interview. Applicants who are successful in the interview will be directed to appear for DGCA Medical Examination. Persons in Armed Forces (Army, Navy and Air Force) require No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their respective Headquarters before commencement of flying.

Course Contents/Syllabus for various Programmes is given in the Prospectus. Trainees of all categories up to the Private Pilot Licence stage are required to undergo Class II Medical Examination by Doctors approved by Director General of Civil Aviation. Candidates for Commercial Pilot Licence will have to undergo Class I Medical Examination at the Central Medical Establishment, New Delhi or at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine, Bangalore prior to applying for licence.
