I have a maryland bridge, it has popped out twice now.. is that normal?

When I was about 7 years old, my friend threw a godzilla toy from taco bell (remember those?!) at my face and broke my tooth. It just stayed in there broken until my freshmen year of high school, then I had to get it removed because I was getting braces. I finally got my braces off this september, at 19, and I decided to get a maryland bridge. I definitely can't afford spending 3,000 on a regular bridge. Anyway.. It has already become loose twice. Right now, it is. I don't think that's normal. My grandma had one for 20+ years and hers never came out. I'm wondering if my dentist put it in right. The first one did it for free so he probably didn't the care, the second was very young and didn't seem to know what to do. Maybe I should look for an older dentist? Also, would it be safe to glue it back on myself with dental cement? I forgot to mention.. it cost me 160 bucks to get it glued back in !! A bit ridiculous to just glue in a darn tooth. Thanks guys.

I have been doing dentistry for 43 years and Maryland bridges have not been what they were advertised to be. They almost always come out and need to be sent back to the lab to have the metal wings etched in a strong acid solution, before they are re cemented. Also there can be no contamination to the metal after the re etching, by saliva or even the dentist touching them. At one time they were considered very conservative because the abutment teeth did not need to be ground down. Today we have implants which are 1000 times better.
