I am a Forensic Psychiatrist with a single physician, low-volume practice, who is looking for a Medical Biller with at least a few years experience (optimally in a Psychiatric practice). Familiarity with billing Workers Compensation cases, QME (qualified medical examination reports), as well as the ability to bill individual patients, is very important. Due to the low volume of billing (perhaps 5-10 cases a week), I would like to find a Medical Biller who preferably has some work experience in the past as a receptionist (answering the phone, retrieving records, welcoming patients). This would be a full-time job; that is Monday thru Friday from 8am-4pm (or 9am-5pm; there is some flexibility). So again, aside from billling the few cases we have, I would need you to be able to function as a receptionist/secretary as well. Both these roles require a person who is:
- Highly motivated, organized, and capable of problem-solving (even under stressful or busy conditions
- Very personable, friendly, compassionate and out-going, while still maintaining an appropriate distance from the staff and clients
- Being bi-lingual is a definite plus, as are those who are multi-lingual in other languages (Spanish however, would be optimal)
- Has a sense of humor and is not too easily offended, as our office is at times very light hearted,
- Those who are highly sensitive and emotionally unstable need not apply. We are not looking for employees that are argumentative, quarrelsome and unwilling to admit fault (we all make mistakes) or respect constructive criticism.
- The ability to work well with other employees is very important, as is the ability to communicate questions and concerns honestly and freely
- Experience transcribing dictated reports is another bonus
- Proficiency with computers and software is essential (expertise is not expected), as is the ability to type quickly
- CMRS, RHIA or other billing certifications is a plus
Again, I am looking for not just a Medical Biller, because since process a relatively smaller number of claims, we are looking for someone who could also serve as a receptionist. Experience in both fields, particularly in medical/legal billing would put you at the top of the lis (especially if you've formerly worked for a psychiatrist.). Obviously, the more experienced and multi-talented, the higher your wage. The office atmosphere is not high pressure, I consider myself to be somewhat of a comedian, and as Voltaire said, "The art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while nature cures the disease."
