M.Tech Admissions 2011-2012

Office of the Dean, Academic Affairs, National Institute of Technology, Srinagar has invited applications for admission to the following M. Tech. Programmes for the year, 2011.

Eligibility:
For GATE Qualified/Sponsored/General Category candidates: The candidate should have 4 year B.E/B. Tech in concerned discipline with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.75 or 60% marks in aggregate.
For SC/ST/OBC category candidates: The candidate should have B.E/B. Tech in concerned discipline with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.25 or 55% in aggregate.Sponsored Candidates(Full Time/Part Time): Sponsored Full Time/Part Time candidates must produce the following additional documents at the time of Admission.
a) No Objection Certificate/Sponsorship Certificate from the employer. (for both Full Time & Part Time candidates)
b) Proof of 02 years of regular services and working experience. This is applicable for both Full Time & Part Time candidates.
c) Sponsored candidates (Full Time/Part Time) can be considered under Sponsored Category. However, they must route their Application for Admission through their Employer.

General Conditions:
a) The candidate appearing in final semester B.E/B.Tech Examinations can also apply. However, they have to produce their Grade Cards/ result notification showing the above prescribed CGPA/percentage latest by 3Ist July, 2011, failing which their admission shall stand cancelled without any notice. Such candidates must produce a certificate duly signed by Head of the Institution, last attended that all examinations including practical/ examinations up to 7th semester, necessary for award of the B.Tech/B.E Degree have been completed in order to be eligible for applying the M. Tech Course.

Application forms can be downloaded from Institute Website www. nitsri.net, which may sent to Assistant Registrar (Academic) National Institute of Technology, Hazratbal, Srinagar, Kashmir (India) - 190006 alongwith Demand Draft for Rs: 300/= for OM/OBC and SC/ST candidates Rs: 200/= drawn in favour of Director, National Institute of Technology, Hazratbal, Srinagar, Kashmir, 190006 (India).

Application forms complete in all respects should be submitted or delivered by post to Assistant Registrar (Acad), National Institute of Technology, Hazratbal, Srinagar, Kashmir, (J&K) on or before 11-06-2011. Applications will be screened by concerned Departments for determination of concerned field of eligibility and other conditions of eligibility. The list of eligible candidates will be put on website www.nitsri.net .

M.Tech, Ph.D Admissions 2011-2012

Kochi, June 01,2011 : Applications have been invited by National Institute of Technology, Patna for admission to Post Graduate and Doctoralprogram during academic session 2011-12 from eligible candidates.

ADMISSION TO M. Tech./ MURP PROGRAM: 2011
Courses are offered in Master of Technology (M. Tech.) in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engg, Computer Sc. & Engg., Electronics & Communication with different specializations and Master in Urban and Regional Planning (MURP).

Minimum Eligibility Criteria for Admission - M.Tech. and MURP : Admission to Post Graduate program (M.Tech. and MURP) will be granted in the Autumn (Odd) semester of each academic session on the basis of the performance at Common all India competitive test known as Graduate Aptitudes Test (GATE) for Engineering and Architecture.

The candidate must have

(i) Passed Bachelor’s degree or equivalent examination with specialization in relevant branches/ disciplines as specified for different Master’s specialization/ courses.
(ii) The candidates under different categories must have minimum percentage of marks in aggregate (of all the semesters/ years) or minimum CGPA in 10 point scale (as determined by NIT Patna) in their qualifying examination.
(iii) Candidates presently in last semester/ final year may also be considered for admission provided they fulfill above criterion and submit final passing result before start of academic session. If the candidates selected for admission fails to submit passing certificate or his/ her percentage marks in aggregate falls below the minimum requirement, then his/ her admission shall stand cancelled.
(iv) Admission under different categories shall be made in order of preference of discipline/ branch of specialization on GATE Score of the candidate for different specialization.
(v) The GATE score certificate may be used by the candidate for one time admission only.
(vi) Merit list of the candidates based on qualifying GATE score shall be prepared for grant of admission. Candidate’s Inter-se-merit shall be as per preferential order of Branch/ Specialization at Bachelor’s degree program indicated above. The minimum cut off GATE score notified by GATE authority may be revised by the Institute.
(vii) The minimum percentage cut-off of marks/ CGPA in qualifying examination and cut-off GATE Score Percentile for different categories of candidates is detailed below:
General: 60% in Aggregate/ CGPA: 6.75
OBC: 60% in Aggregate/ CGPA: 6.75
SC/ ST/ PH: 55% in Aggregate/ CGPA: 6.25
Sponsored: 60% in Aggregate/ CGPA: 6.75


ADMISSION TO Ph. D. PROGRAM: 2011
Courses are Offered in Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) Program under Mechanical,Civil Engg., Computer Sc. & Engg., Architecture, Mathematics, Physics and Humanities & Social Sciences departments.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria for Admission - Ph.D
Candidates with following qualification shall be eligible for admission to the Ph. D. Programme

For Engineering, Technology and Architecture Departments:
(a) Candidates possessing M. Tech/ M. E/ M. Sc. (Engg.)/ M. Arch or equivalent Degree in relevant branch from a recognized University/ Institute with minimum 60% marks (or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale) in the qualifying examination shall be considered for admission in the departments as per their Specialization only.

(b) Candidates possessing B. Tech/ B. E/ B. Sc. (Engg.)/ B. Arch or equivalent Degree in relevant branch from a recognized University/ Institute with minimum 75% marks (or a CGPA of 8.25 in 10 point scale) in all (from 10th onward) examinations including qualifying examination may be considered in exceptional cases after approval of DRC. Such candidates must have professional/ research experience of at least ten years in reputed Institutions/ Organizations.

For Science Departments: Candidates possessing Masters Degree in the area of Science from a recognized University/ Institute with minimum 60% marks (or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale) in the qualifying examinations shall be considered for admission in the departments as per their Specialization only.

For Science, Humanities & Social Science Departments: Candidates possessing Masters Degree in the area of English or Economics from a recognized University/ Institute with minimum 60% marks (or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale) in the qualifying examinations shall be considered for admission in the departments as per their Specialization only. Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CGPA for SC/ ST candidates.

ELIGIBILITY AND ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO Ph.D. PROGRAMMES
I. Faculty of Engineering Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Engineering / Technology in the appropriate branch of study with a minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) in UG or PG for admission under OC / OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 is the eligibility requirement for SC/ST candidates.

II. Faculty of Architecture Bachelors degree in Architecture / Planning and Master’s degree in Architecture / Design / Planning / Building Engineering and Management / Building Technology or its equivalent with a minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) in UG or PG for admission under OC / OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 is the eligibility requirement for SC/ST candidates.

III. Management Studies Master’s degree in Business Administration with valid NET/UGC/CAT/AIMA with a minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) in UG or PG for admission under OC / OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 is the eligibility requirement for SC/ST candidates. Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering / Industrial Management with a minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) in UG or PG for admission OC / OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 is the eligibility requirement for SC/ST candidates.

IV. Computer Applications Master’s degree in Computer Applications or M.Sc. (Computer Science/ OR&CA) with GATE / NET/ UGC / CSIR / NBHM score with a minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) in UG or PG for admission for OC / OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 is the eligibility requirement for SC/ST candidates. Master’s degree (M.E. /M.Tech.) in Computer Science and Engineering with a minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) in UG or PG for admission under OC / OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 is the eligibility requirement for SC/ST candidates.

V. Faculty of Science & Humanities (Maths, Physics, Chemistry and English) Master’s degree in Sciences / Humanities / Social Sciences in the relevant discipline with a minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) and a valid GATE / UGC / CSIR / NBHM / NET score for OC / OBC category and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 is the eligibility requirement for SC/ST candidates and a valid GATE / UGC / CSIR / NBHM / NET.

ELIGIBILILTY FOR ADMISSION TO MS (by Research)
Candidates for admission to MS (by Research) degree programme shall be required to have 60 percentage of marks or 6.5 CGPA (for OC / OBC) in the B.E./B.Tech. degree and a valid GATE SCORE in the appropriate subject. In case of SC/ST candidates the eligibility requirement is 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 and a valid GATE SCORE in the appropriate subject. Final semester students with a valid GATE score can also apply provided their final marks are made available on or before 15th September, 2011. Such candidates may be considered for provisional admission. These candidates must include attested copies of the mark lists and bonafide certificate from the Head of the Institution along with the application form.

ELIGIBILILTY FOR ADMISSION TO M.Sc. PROGRAMMES
Minimum of 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in the qualifying examination, for OP / OBC and 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA of 6.0 for SC / ST candidates. Final semester students can also apply provided their final marks are made available on or before 15th September, 2011. Such candidates may be considered for provisional admission. However, these candidates must have successfully passed with 60% mark in one to four semesters of B.Sc. or two years of bachelor’s degree in science on the date of application and the application must include attested copies of the mark lists and bonafide certificate from the Head of the Institution in the prescribed format.

Minimum Qualification / Eligibility:
A. MTech Programme (common to all P.G. Programmes): Full time - Two years (Four Semesters)
Admission to a MTech Programme shall be open to candidates who have passed the prescribed qualifying Examination with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 5.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system, or not less than 55% of marks in the aggregate (taking into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public/university examinations conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree programme). However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 5.0 or 50% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST candidates.

B. MTech (Research) Programme: (common to all P.G. Programmes): Full time - Two years (Four Semesters)
A pass in the prescribed qualifying examination with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.0 OR not less than 60% marks in the aggregate (taking into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public / university examination conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree programme) For SC/ST minimum CGPA of 5.5 OR 55% marks in the aggregate. Valid GATE score is essential for scholarship seats

C. MCA Programme : Full time Three-year (Six Semester) course
1. Candidates securing 60% marks or 6.5/10 CGPA (55% or 6.0/10 CGPA for SC/ST) in each of the examination of
(i) 12th level with Mathematics and
(ii) Bachelor’s Degree of full time 3 year duration from a recognised University with any one of the following as one of the subjects.
a. Mathematics
b. Statistics
c. Business Mathematics
d. Discrete Mathematics
e. Mathematical Foundations Computer Science
f. Business Statistics
g. Computational Mathematics
h. Elementary Mathematics
i. Elementary Statistics.

D. MBA Programme: Full time Two year course (Four semester)
1. Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a Recognized University with not less than 55% marks (or cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 5.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system) in the aggregate taking into account the marks scored in all subjects of all the University examination conducted during the entire prescribed period of the degree Programme. However, this prescribed minimum marks shall be 50% (CGPA of at least 5.0 in the 0-10 scale grading system) in the case of SC/ST.
2. CAT - 2010 Score
Admission is based on the Rank/Scores obtained in the CAT - 2010 and Group discussion and Interview.

E. MSc Programme : Full time Two years (Four semesters) course:
Eligibility for admission to MSc Programme in:
i. M. Sc in Chemistry: A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry with 60% (or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.0 in the 0-10 scale grading system) of the aggregate in all the years of course of study and with 55% (CGPA of at least 5.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system) in respect of SC/ST candidates.
ii. M. Sc. in Physics: A Bachelor’s Degree in the subject with 60% (or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.0 in the 0-10 scale grading system) of the aggregate in all the years of course of study and with 55% (CGPA of at least 5.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system) in respect of SC/ST candidates.

F. PhD Programme
i) Admission to a PhD Programme shall be open to candidates who have passed the prescribed qualifying examination with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 5.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system, or not less than 55% marks in the aggregate (taking into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public/university examinations conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree programme). However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 5.0 or 50% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST candidates. The prescribed qualifying examination is as follows:
a. For PhD in Engineering/Technology - Master’s degree in relevant field.
b. For PhD in Science /Humanities, Social Sciences & Management - Master’s degree in relevant field.

ii) Employed professionals having experience and proven competence aspiring for PhD Programme will be considered under part-time scheme (External Registration) and will be allowed to pursue their research at their own location of work.
There are five types of student status for PhD programme:
1) Full-time students on Institute Scholarship
2) Full-time sponsored students on QIP/EFIP (AICTE)
3) Full-time/External Registrants sponsored from Industry or other organizations including Educational Institutions
4) Full-time/ External Registrants non sponsored non-scholarship students
5) Internal Registrants sponsored staff of NITK
