Downloaded form should accompany with an account payee bank draft of Rs.200/- for Regular P.G, Courses and Rs.450/- for Self-financing Courses drawn in favour of Chairman, P.G. While submitting application candidates are required to pay another Rs.200/- towards the Entrance Test fee in favour of the Chairman, P.G. Minimum Qualification / Eligibility:
A. MTech Programme (common to all P.G. Programmes): Full time - Two years (Four Semesters)
Admission to a MTech Programme shall be open to candidates who have passed the prescribed qualifying Examination with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 5.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system, or not less than 55% of marks in the aggregate (taking into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public/university examinations conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree programme). However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 5.0 or 50% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST candidates.

B. MTech (Research) Programme: (common to all P.G. Programmes): Full time - Two years (Four Semesters)
A pass in the prescribed qualifying examination with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.0 OR not less than 60% marks in the aggregate (taking into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public / university examination conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree programme) For SC/ST minimum CGPA of 5.5 OR 55% marks in the aggregate. Valid GATE score is essential for scholarship seats

C. MCA Programme : Full time Three-year (Six Semester) course
1. Candidates securing 60% marks or 6.5/10 CGPA (55% or 6.0/10 CGPA for SC/ST) in each of the examination of
(i) 12th level with Mathematics and
(ii) Bachelor’s Degree of full time 3 year duration from a recognised University with any one of the following as one of the subjects.
a. Mathematics
b. Statistics
c. Business Mathematics
d. Discrete Mathematics
e. Mathematical Foundations Computer Science
f. Business Statistics
g. Computational Mathematics
h. Elementary Mathematics
i. Elementary Statistics.

D. MBA Programme: Full time Two year course (Four semester)
1. Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a Recognized University with not less than 55% marks (or cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 5.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system) in the aggregate taking into account the marks scored in all subjects of all the University examination conducted during the entire prescribed period of the degree Programme. However, this prescribed minimum marks shall be 50% (CGPA of at least 5.0 in the 0-10 scale grading system) in the case of SC/ST.
2. CAT - 2010 Score
Admission is based on the Rank/Scores obtained in the CAT - 2010 and Group discussion and Interview.

E. MSc Programme : Full time Two years (Four semesters) course:
Eligibility for admission to MSc Programme in:
i. M. Sc in Chemistry: A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry with 60% (or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.0 in the 0-10 scale grading system) of the aggregate in all the years of course of study and with 55% (CGPA of at least 5.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system) in respect of SC/ST candidates.
ii. M. Sc. in Physics: A Bachelor’s Degree in the subject with 60% (or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.0 in the 0-10 scale grading system) of the aggregate in all the years of course of study and with 55% (CGPA of at least 5.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system) in respect of SC/ST candidates.

F. PhD Programme
i) Admission to a PhD Programme shall be open to candidates who have passed the prescribed qualifying examination with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 5.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system, or not less than 55% marks in the aggregate (taking into account the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public/university examinations conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree programme). However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 5.0 or 50% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST candidates. The prescribed qualifying examination is as follows:
a. For PhD in Engineering/Technology - Master’s degree in relevant field.
b. For PhD in Science /Humanities, Social Sciences & Management - Master’s degree in relevant field.

ii) Employed professionals having experience and proven competence aspiring for PhD Programme will be considered under part-time scheme (External Registration) and will be allowed to pursue their research at their own location of work.
There are five types of student status for PhD programme:
1) Full-time students on Institute Scholarship
2) Full-time sponsored students on QIP/EFIP (AICTE)
3) Full-time/External Registrants sponsored from Industry or other organizations including Educational Institutions
4) Full-time/ External Registrants non sponsored non-scholarship students
5) Internal Registrants sponsored staff of NITK

Eligibility
For Ph.D.:

Candidates holding Masters Degree in Engineering / Technology/ Sciences/ Management/Humanities & Social Sciences or equivalent with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 7.75 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by the Institutes or having minimum 70% marks in aggregate where marks are awarded (except in Humanities & Social Science where the requirement is first class with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA of 6.75).

For candidates belonging to SC/ST or physically handicapped category,
the minimum requirement of percentage of marks in aggregate is 65% and CGPA is 7.25 on a 10-point scale (except in Humanities & Social Science where the requirement is first class with a minimum of 55% marks or CGPA of 6.25).

A candidate can be considered for part time admission if he/she has 2 years experience and fulfils the eligibility conditions defined above.

Final year/semester students whose result is awaited are also eligible to apply.

Foreign candidates who fulfill the qualifications equivalent to educational qualifications required for admission to Ph.D. programme in the relevant discipline should apply through proper channel.

For M.Tech.: B.E./B.Tech. in relevant fields are required

For M.Sc.: B.Sc. in relevant disciplines

Minimum marks for M.Tech. & M.Sc.

Candidates of general category/ OBC seeking admission to the postgraduate programmes must have at least 60% marks or CGPA of 6.75 on a 10-point scale at the qualifying degree level; SC/ST category candidates, must have 55% marks or 6.25 CGPA on a 10-point scale. The percentage of marks will be considered as aggregate awarded for the qualifying degree.

Application Procedure:

Application forms and prospectus can be had from the Registrar in person or by post on requisition with a cost Rs. 300/- (Rs. 150/- in the case of SC / ST Candidates, on production of attested photocopy of Community Certificate) in the form of a Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Registrar, Bharathiar University payable at Coimbatore and Self-addressed stamped envelope to the value of Rs. 50/-. Candidates can also apply online (or) download the application form from the website www.b-u.ac.in and submit the filled in application with required fee of Rs. 300/- (for others) and Rs. 150/- (for SC / ST candidates). The Application can also be had from the Bharathiar University City Centre at CSI Bishop Appasamy College of Arts & Science, 129, Race course, Coimbatore - 18, in person.

How To Apply
The selection process consists of multiple steps. The selection process consists of a national level entrance aptitude test, material test and interview. The selection panel is of professionals from craft/design sector.

The Institute does not recommend any specific book/course for preparation nor subscribes to any entrance coaching Institute.

The Institute follows a method of selection which focuses on the aptitude of the candidate who thinks laterally, is able to develop alternative approaches to deal with complex situations.

Tolerance towards ambiguity, versatility and ability to handle variables are some of the essential attitudes expected.
