TWAS-IACS PG Fellowship 2011
The Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata, India and TWAS, the academy of sciences for the developing world, offer fellowships to young scientists from developing countries (other than India) who wish to pursue research leading towards a PhD in a field of natural sciences.
TWAS-IACS Postgraduate Fellowships are tenable at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) for a period of up to four years for studies leading to a PhD degree. Research areas carried out include:
Theoretical physics
Condensed matter physics
Spectroscopy
Materials science
Non-conventional energy
Physical chemistry
Organic chemistry
Inorganic chemistry
Biological chemistry
Polymer science
Eligibility:
Applicants for these Fellowships must meet the following criteria:
be a maximum age of 30 years on 31 December of the application year;
hold a Master's degree in a field of natural sciences;
be nationals of a developing country (other than India);
provide an official Acceptance Letter from a department of the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS)
provide evidence of proficiency in English.
Requests for acceptance must be directed to the Dean-Administration and Senior Professor Prof. Subrata Ghosh by e-mail (ocsg@iacs.res.in ) who will facilitate assignment of a host supervisor. In contacting Prof. Ghosh applicants must accompany their request for an Acceptance Letter with copy of their CV and a research proposal outline.

The deadline for submission of applications to Dean-Administration and Senior Professor, Dept. of Organic Chemistry, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), 2A&B Raja SC Mullick Road, Jadavpur, Kolkata 700 032 is 30 June 2011.
Applicants must submit an Acceptance Letter from a department of the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS) when applying, or by the deadline at the latest. Without preliminary acceptance the application will not be considered for selection.
Reference letters: Referees must send signed letters as attachments via e-mail directly to TWAS and IACS. The subject line must contain: IACS/PG/candidate’s surname. Alternatively, reference letters can be sent by post in sealed envelopes. Only signed reference letters can be accepted.
Applicants to the TWAS-IACS Postgraduate Fellowship Programme should send a copy of their application both to TWAS (by post, fax or email) and IACS (hard copy only).
