How to Apply to Japan as a Nurse/Caregiver

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) is now accepting a third batch of applicants to jobs as caregivers and nurses in Japan.

This endeavor to recruit Filipino nurses and caregivers, begun in 2009, was done by the POEA in cooperation with the Japan International Corporation of Welfare Services (JICWELS), an approved coordinating organization of the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.

Based on POEA Advisory No. 35, http://www.poea.gov.ph/jpepa/ADVISORY%203rd%20JPEPA.pdf, applicants for the position of nurse must be nursing graduates, licensed, with at least three years hospital experience, and physically and psychologically fit.

Caregiver applicants must be physically and psychologically fit, and should be graduates of any four-year course or nursing graduates, and certified as caregivers by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

The POEA said that based on the first and second deployments, the majority of the Japanese institutions hiring preferred candidates 20 to 35 years old.

“The institutions are also strict about the physical and psychological fitness of candidates," the POEA release added.

“Further, they are advised that they have to strictly observe training/work schedules which may include Saturdays and Sundays," it said.

Pre-employment orientation will “soon" start for qualified applicants who have registered online and maintained an active account with the POEA’s e-registration system found on the POEA website. http://www.epoeaservices.poea.gov.ph/ereg/ereg.asp

Knowing how to speak Nihongo will be an advantage for applicants, the POEA said.

Qualified applicants should personally submit the following documents to the Manpower Registry Division at the ground floor of the POEA building in Ortigas Avenue, Mandaluyong City:

* A detailed resumé with one 2x2 picture
* College diploma (for caregiver applicant, diploma should be authenticated)
* Transcript of records
* Valid Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) ID
* Employment certificates (for nurse applicants)
* Valid TESDA certificates on caregiving
* Valid passport
* Valid NBI clearance (for travel abroad)

On the other hand, qualified applicants from the Visayas and Mindanao should personally submit the same documents to the following addresses:
POEA Regional Center for Visayas
Mezzanine Floor, LDM Building
M.J. Cuenco Avenue corner Legaspi Street
Cebu City

POEA Regional Center for Mindanao
2nd Floor, AMYA II Building, Quimpo Boulevard corner
Tulip Drive, Ecoland, Davao City
Applicants may also register online at
www.eregister.poea.gov.ph

The deadline for submission of documents is January 6, 2011. The POEA said registrants with complete documents will be prioritized.
