Veterinary Oncology Technician (Leesburg, Va & Tenleytown, DC, United States)

We are seeking a Veterinary Oncology Technician & Site Coordinator for our service located at Friendship Hospital for Animals and other locations:

Job summary: In this position you are acting as a Veterinary Oncology Technician and Trials Site Coordinator for The Oncology Service, LLC .

As a Veterinary Oncology Technician: you are responsible for the care and treatments of all the oncology patients. You must have a complete knowledge of all chemotherapy drugs, their adverse effects, and how they are administered. You also are responsible for assisting the oncologist with consults and procedures, and must be comfortable with inducing and monitoring anesthesia. You must also be able to communicate professionally and compassionately with clients.

As a Veterinary Trials Site Coordinator: you are responsible for managing the clinical, administrative and organizational components of clinical trials conducted by The Oncology Service and Animal Clinical Investigation at Friendship Hospital for Animals and other locations of The Oncology Service, as needed.

Requirements:

•You must receive training as a level 3 or 4 Friendship Hospital for Animals Technician
•You must be proficient in anesthetic induction and monitoring
•You must be able to communicate professionally and compassionately with clients
•You must fill all other requirements outlined in the level 3 or 4 job descriptions
•You must have impeccable attention to detail
•You must have excellent communication skills
•You must be proficient with Microsoft Office software

Essential functions:

•Work independently under the supervision of The Oncology Service veterinarians
•Check-in oncology patients for the day and draw any pre-treatment blood work
•Have an in-depth knowledge of all chemotherapy drugs, their adverse effects, and how they are administered
•Calculate chemotherapy dosages
•Be able to sedate and monitor patients under sedation
•Be able to comfortably speak to clients about the basics of their course of treatment and side effects to watch for at home
•Keep abreast of current studies administered by Animal Clinical Investigation (ACI)
•Work well with and support all oncology services staff
•Maintain the sanitation and stock of the special procedures room
•Maintain an appropriate inventory of all items need for the Oncology services
•Follow all policies and procedures as outline in the Friendship Hospital for Animals Technical Department Manual
•Provide back up to the Oncology Coordinator in his/her absence
•Receive training in Good Clinical Practice and implement this training in the management and implementation of clinical trials conducted through The Oncology Service

Other duties and responsibilities:

•Follows all departmental and company policies and procedures
•Maintains a clean and neat working environment
•Is courteous to all staff and clients
•Educates oneself regarding veterinary medicine to be able to better meet the needs of our clients and direct their question to the appropriate team member
