Is feline herpes painful for my adult cat and my kitten?

Hello everybody, we have two cats, one is a male short care cat and a shorthair kitten. we adopted both. The adult cat we rescued from the streets, and the kitten was abused by her previous owners. Both were diagnosed with feline herpes. They sneeze alot, gasping for air (that is how it sounds like) and somebody have a little nose bleeding. The adult cat is on antibiotics, steroids and lysine. Most likely its chronicle. The kitten just started showing symptoms, she was given an antibiotic shot and is on lysine as well. Now my questions... 1. is it painful for them to have feline herpes? 2. Is there anyway to help them get healthier? Food, filtered water etc.? I allready keep everything as clean as possible but it doesnt seem to help. I just want the best for the 2. Anyone has advice on what to do and maybe what not to do when it comes to feline herpes??? The adult cat has a dental soon, where they take out his infcted teeth, which might help with the nosebleeding. but if not Im out of options :(

While it seems your questions have been answered, the only thing I have to say is please keep your cats indoors. Herpes is HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS.
