Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani is ranked No. 1 among the top 50 private engineering colleges, followed by International Inst. of Information Technology, Hyderabad (moved up 3 places form 5th in 2008). Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore made a big jump of six places from 12th to 6th in 2009. SSN College of Engineering also made it to the top 10 list (from 13th place).
