AvantDerm is a full-service dermatology clinic and research institute located in downtown Toronto’s trendy Distillery District. The AvantDerm team is innovating specialty care, and we seek a creative, energetic nurse to work closely with our medical staff. AvantDerm is a newly constructed, cutting-edge medical center with the aesthetics of an art gallery. The facility houses 6 examination rooms, 3 treatment rooms, an operating room, a cosmetics wing and a research center. The clinic will revolutionize the dermatology specialty by eliminating waiting lists. Patients with referrals will receive walk-in care without a booked appointment, and will have then have access to a number of specialty clinics as needed. Our care model is reliant on the skills and knowledge of enthusiastic nurses ready to take on leadership roles.


RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct patient interviews and take medical histories.
• Perform physical examinations and procedures such as cryotherapy, injections, skin biopsies, electrocautery, curettage, excisions, wound dressings, specimen collection (skin, hair, nails) etc.
• Provide counselling on preventive health care, such as skin cancers, atopic dermatitis, acne etc.
• Perform some or all of the following, as delegated by the supervising physician: phototherapy, laser treatments, injections, management of patients with chronic skin disease.
• Develop an operations manual to document all policies and procedures.
• Attend meetings to provide feedback and advice that will help our team to innovate and provide the best patient care possible.


OPPORTUNITIES
• Deliver community outreach programs to educate the public about skin disease
• Participate in clinical research processes and present findings at meetings, workshops, etc.
• Participate in continuing health education programs

REQUIREMENTS
• Completion of a college or university degree in Nursing Science (BScN, BN, or equivalent)
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic working environment while maintaining friendly, comforting interactions with patients
• Basic computer and typing skills; ability to learn to navigate an electronic medical record
• Dermatology experience is not essential as there will be adequate training to learn enhanced skills
