Employment negotiation in India? US business grad moving to India to work for best friend's company.?

I am an American business grad going to work for my best friend's father's company in India. It is a retail/ manufacturing company. I will be working sometimes 12-13 hour days and on weekends. When I am not traveling I will be living with her family and have all my living expenses taken care of. I want to commit to at least a year but thought a trial period would be sensible in case of any major issues. I need advice on negotiating a salary and benefits with her. As far as the exchange rate, how do you figure what salary would be appropriate? What about benefits such as medical, dental, stock options etc? I am uninformed on what India employers offer their employees or what is customary. How would you approach the subject matter and what etiquette and customs should I be aware of? I believe an equivalent of $3000 USD a month for the first 3 months is the minimum I would negotiate. Upon that I could be evaluated and my salary reassessed. Does this sound too high, too low or too risky?

I would not do it for less then $5k / month and you have them cover your travel. You may even want some portion upfront to avoid any unexpected costs.
