I have a 12 year old dachshund, I just got him (he's a rescue dog). I love him dearly! He's been to the vet, had all his shots, a dental cleaning, and blood work. I asked the vet why he drinks and urinates excessively. She did tests for kidney or other organ problems and for diabetes. All tests showed he had no problems. At the time, we though the excessive drinking and urination could have been due to his lack of care. It has been over a month now. I diaper him, and walk him every two hours. Yet he still has accidents. And whenever he does urinate (be it on a walk or in his diaper) he returns immediately to the water bowl and drinks until he is almost swollen. I've been trying to limit his water intake, but it's hard to do when I have three other dogs in the house. They need access to water, too. My vet is stumped, I'm stumped, I don't know what to do. I'm hoping someone out there has some advice. Sorry for the long post!

Was it tested for DIABETES *INSIPIDUS* as well as the mellitus? PS=DON'T "...limit water...."!! That can CAUSE damage.
