Please read...i have a dentist appt. tuesday?

about 4 months ago, i felt a slight pain comeing from my back molar, so i have my dental assistant friend look at it and she said it is indeed a cavity... i couldnt afford to go to the dentist 4 months ago so that is why i never went ( and the fact that i had a minor cavity years ago but it went away because i was taking better care of my teeth, so i was hoping it would just go away) i havent had any pain whats so ever other then the 2 days of just a dull pain... well yesterday while brushing my teeth i noticed something black on the top of my molar, so i loooked closer and there was a hole, im assuming the cavity never went away and just got worse... NOW that its open is there anything i can do to clean it out? peroxide? it doesnt hurt and i dont want a root canal or to lose my tooth? i dont like that food keeps going in it, is that bad? i used to brush 2 times a day but since i found this hole i have been brushing 3 times...

This is why you should have gotten it fixed then. I know, dentists are expensive. But if you don't treat a problem when it's small and manageable, it gets out of control. A cavity so big you can see a big black hole that food goes in? Yuck! At this point, I think you don't have much that you can do. Just take good care of your teeth and get to that dentist ASAP. Borrow the money from anyone you can if that's what you need to do to get it taken care of. Your oral health is really important. An infection in your mouth, since it is so close to your brain, can be really serious. Invest in an electric toothbrush and brush for 4 minutes total a day (morning and night, 2 minutes each), and floss once a day with a floss that does not glide through your teeth. Floss that is really soft and silky doesn't do anything - the bigger and bulkier the floss, the better. You should also rinse with a good mouthwash that is free of alcohol (not Listerine). Let your dentist give you some treatment advice.
